PATRIOTIC TARPON

Every May, the pass fills with boats the way a church fills on Sunday. Boca Grande, the tarpon capital of the world, where the hill tide pours through the deep hole and the silver kings stack up by the thousand, and a fleet that has made this pilgrimage for over a century waits in a great slow circle above them.

Presidents fished this water. Railroad barons and baseball men fished it. The tarpon does not care. When a hundred pounds of mirror goes into the air over the fleet—gill plates rattling, the whole circle watching—the fish owns every boat in the pass, the same as it did in 1885.

That is what this design stands for: the pilgrimage. Under the flag on this shirt, the silver king rolls the way it has rolled through a hundred and forty tarpon seasons, in the pass where American sportfishing grew up. Some places are famous. This water is earned.

Wear it for the Boca Grande guides, the pass fleet, and every angler saving his June for the hill tide. Wear it because the king still holds court, and the court still comes to him.
