IRISH FIREFIGHTER — THE LADDER THEY CLIMBED

He got off the boat with one bag, a thick brogue, and a name nobody in the new country could pronounce. Two years later he was riding the back step of an engine, in the one uniform America would hand a man like him — the job too dangerous, too dirty, and too low-paid for anyone else to fight him for it. He took it with gratitude. Then he turned it into a dynasty.

That is the heritage in this design: the Maltese cross beside the shamrock, the firehouse as the first door in America that opened to the Irish and the ladder their families climbed into the heart of the country. Grandfathers, fathers, and sons on the same company's roster. The pipes leading the company down the avenue in March — and the same pipes playing the same families home at the funerals.

It is a patriotic design twice over: love for the old country carried in the blood, and love for the new one proven in the fire. The Irish did not just join the fire service. In city after city, they became it.

Wear it for the generations the firehouse carried into America, and for the names on the roster that started with a boat ticket. Wear it because heritage is not where you came from — it is what you built when you got there.
